What I Want To See When I Google Spring Outfits
I have been thinking about this a lot lately. I think it has to do with my liking of seasonal aesthetics. I’m most passionate about this when it comes to fall and winter outfits. But since fall has passed and winter is coming to an end, I figured I would write about this for spring.
I don’t like what usually comes up when I Google “(insert name of season) outfits”. The outfits don’t have (insert name of season) accents. When I Google “fall outfits”, for example, I don’t see enough fall colors, florals, plaid, etc. I see a generic outfit that could be worn any season when the weather is cold. (A woman wearing a light beige turtleneck sweater, black leggings, cowgirl heels, and a sunhat). I will search for spring outfits and will be met with a woman wearing white jeans, a white and blue striped shirt, and a light washed jean jacket. Either that or some or some generic outfit that could be worn any season that the wether permits. Technically the examples above are outfits for that season, as they are weather appropriate. But they don’t scream (insert name of season) outfit. The outfit with the jean jacket can be worn in summer or fall. It doesn’t have any details that say “spring!”. I am more passionate about this when it comes to autumn and winter outfits because autumn and winter fall victim to this the most. It is also easiest for me to point out details that are commonly found on autumn and winter ensembles that scream “this outfit was made for the seasonal fall/winter aesthetic”. Long story short, when I Google “fall outfit” I don’t want to see just any outfit that will keep me warm, I want to feel like I am studying in a fall themed cafe, sipping my pumpkin spice tea, munching on a pumpkin muffin, while studying for exams.
What makes a seasonally aesthetic spring outfit isn’t as definitive as what makes a seasonally aesthetic fall or winter outfit. I had to do a bit of thinking as to what separates any “spring outfit” from one that goes along with the seasonal aesthetic.
Before I can dive into what makes a seasonal spring aesthetic, we have to difine what it is. Here are two descriptions I resonate with.
“It alludes to elements such as rebirth, new beginnings, and renewal, and a more hopeful, optimistic vibe, after so many months of cold. The aesthetics that revolve around Spring are centered around motifs such as budding flowers and meadows, baby animals, sunshine, and a "fresh" and "new" feeling.” -Aesthetics Wiki
“With the more flowery and colorful themes, this season is definitely considered more feminine-centric in many societies across the world, with all the promotion of "cute" motifs and looks for women's wear, but this shouldn't stop men or non-binary folk from expressing a liking for Spring or joining in with the trends.” -Aesthetics Wiki
Colors
The first thing that I thought of when mulling over outfits that went with the seasonal spring aesthetic. Pastels are a staple of spring. Pastels are associated with light hearted and peaceful vibes, which matches up with the motifs of spring.

Florals
Out of all the seasons, florals are most prominently a feature of the spring aesthetic. Spring after all is when the flowers begin to bloom. In elementary school, when learning about the seasons, we would say “April showers bring May flowers”. Seeing this floral skirt on Depop instantly made me think “Spring!”. It is what got me thinking about aesthetic spring outfits in the first place.
Romantic Feminine Accents
Romantic Feminine Accents can be:
Bows
Frills
Ruffles
Lace

Flowy/Loose Fitting Tops & Dresses
I find flowy and loose fitting skirts to be very romantic and feminine. After layering and bundling up for winter, it feels nice to transition into something more loose fitting that lets your skin take a breath of the fresh spring air, while not completely exposing you to the cold seeing as we have yet to transition into summer.

I find these to be romantic and feminine as well. I personally think that a floral midi skirt would be best styled with a cami that has some lace details, and a cardigan.

I find that ballet flats and mary janes complement midi skirts very well.
Ballet Flats are from Urban OutfittersShoes With Floral Details
I didn’t think of this until I saw these shoes while looking at Mary Janes. They have spring colors and have flower details. They would be perfect for a pastel spring outfit! If only I could afford them…

Florals are a staple of spring. So, floral accessories are obviously a staple too! You can find floral headwear at most stores that sell clothes.
