My Kind of Fall Fashion
Long time no see! I’ve been pretty busy this month, but this weekend I set aside some time to vibe at Panera wearing my cutest fall outfit while writing and listening to lofi music. I have to say hanging out at Panera for a few hours on the weekend to get work done has really been great for my psyche. I made a new friend and ran into some people I know.
But this post isn’t about Panera lol. I was scrolling through Pinterest a week ago when I came across a scan of an image, which I presume is from an old Liz Lisa catalog, with the words “this is my kind of fall fashion”.
It goes without saying that this post represents my kind of fall fashion. This post gave me the idea to write about my personal taste in fall fashion, rather than simply write a general guide to the fall seasonal aesthetic.
No other fall collection pulls my heartstrings more than the Liz Lisa 2010 autumn/winter collection. I wll be using scans from the mook that went along with that collection as visuals. You can find the full mook on the HelloLizzieBee blog.
Use of color is very important to me when creating a fall outfit. Fall colors are browns, reds, and oranges. As much as I love wearing and seeing these colors in fall outfits, even I would get bored if they were worn too repetitively. I love looking at the photos in this mook because most of the fall outfits utilize fall colors, but the usage of these colors don't go overboard. Liz Lisa did an excellent job of balancing out the colors of the outfits throughout the mook. I love the way Liz Lisa balanced out the brown heavy outfits by adding white furry hats or white furry jackets. Another color combo I really love, which was used in the mook, is orange/brown with pink flowers. I don’t see much pink incorporated into fall themed outfits, but Liz Lisa has proved that it works well for the season. In my favorite fall outfits, pink is usually incorporated in the form of florals. Seeing pink flowers on top of a brown or orange color evoke fond images of cherry blossom trees in my mind. They also bring back nostalgic memories of a tree that I had in my front yard as a child that pink petals would fall from.
The topic of flowers brings me to the topic of prints. Anyone who's read this blog for a while knows that I am in love with girly fashion. A core element of girly fashion is floral prints. During this era of the brand, Liz Lisa made excellent usage of floral prints. This is a huge differentiator between outfits that simply follow the fall seasonal aesthetic and outfits that give me butterflies in my tummy.
Girly details that my ideal fall outfits also embrace are ruffles, lace, frills, pom poms, and bows. I also love the use of faux fur. Fur is associated with colder weather, so it’s an excellent detail to add to a fall outfit. One inspiration I will be taking from the book is the incorporation of knee high boots into fall outfits. This is a creative way to protect your legs from the cold when wearing a breezy dress of shorts, and it’s also super cute.
