Fashion Designer Diaries #5: I Made My Own Shoujo Girl Skirt, Thrifting, And Genshin Impact Popup!
Hello! A few months ago I a got a good deal on fabric from Jo'Ann's. I know right? Fabric from Jo'Ann's not being CRAZY overpriced? Kill me. The fabric I got was a cute Autumn plaid. I used it to make a skirt, and it's giving shoujo girl vibes!
My dog, who loves to SIT HIS STINKY BUTT on my sewing projects.
Cute right??? Unfortunately, I don't have anything that pairs well with it. I also bought the dolliest Cherie Lou skirt off of Depop with some Christmas money.

I'm hoping to get my hands on a white Liz Lisa cami to pair it with.
Wanting some new tops to go with my new skirts, I invited my two BFFs to go thrifting at Goodwill in Boston. There isn't a Goodwilll near my hometown so neither of my friends had been previously. I got up super early to drive us all to the train station so we could make it to Goodwill early. We arrived at 10:00 to begin the hunt for clothes..
Unfortunately I didn't find any clothes that were worth spending $$$ on. I ended up with a self-help book from the $1 bins that I'm excited to read. My friends, however, had a great haul.
My friend Zhoe scored these two colorful pieces that suit her alternative style.
My friend Juliet scored this army Jacket among other pieces.
I was NOT expecting to find a mythical sheer overlay dress in the bins. This was my favorite score of the trip.
I prefer Goodwill over the other thrift stores I've been to. The clothes are much better sorted and the selection is MUCH better. I find more mid tier brands (think Micheal Kors and Calvin Klein) and alternative styles (think kidcore, punk, psychedelic, grunge) on the racks.. I enjoy browning all of the interesting clothes of different styles, even when I leave with only a book.
Prior to the trip to Goodwill Juliet and I visited the Teyvat Goods popup on Newbury Street!
I had a great time. The atmosphere was amazing. because it was so nice to see so many people of a common interest come together! I spent an embarrassing amount of money at this event😅, but it was well worth the experience.

Juliet bought a Tighnari plushie and a Shenhe birthday kit. I bought a Xiao birb plush, an aranara plushie, and a saurian keychain plush of my son Rocky.
After the event we went to, Cattivo, one of my favorite Newbury Street boutiques. I'm to broke to afford anything from them, but its nice to be delusional and dream!
I wish LoveShackFancy skirts were cheaper... This would be PERFECT for summer!
Top and skirt are from Liz Lisa!
I would KILL do have this top in my wardrobe. Its so delicate, dainty, pink, and perfect!I wish LoveShackFancy skirts were cheaper... This would be PERFECT for summer!
Here's a photo dump from the two days we spent in the city!
Top an Skirt are from Michell Macaron
I also completed a top and skirt set that I'm excited to show off. However, the back of the skirt turned out to be very boxy and I want to find a way to fix it and snatch the skirt before I show it off. I'm thinking about adding a dart or two, but I'm unsure. I start my first fashion illustration class today, so I'm hoping to ask a factuly member for some help with it. It's super pretty and might be one of my favorite creations yet, so I can't wait to get some awesome snapshots with it!
You are really good at sewing, that skirt is so pretty! And that sheer overlay dress must be one of the best thrift finds EVER :D.
ReplyDeleteAlso I totally get your Teyvat Goods popup splurge, I´m finally visiting some Jellycat shops this year, and the amount of money I´m willing to spend is simply unholly :D. But I think as a college students, we deserve all the happiness and plushies. I wish you best luck on that Liz Lisa Cami!
