Outfit Basics Every Girl Needs

One of my best pieces of closet advice is to have a combination of mass produced basics and unique more intricate designs in your closet. It is good to have a fair amount of mass produced basics in your closet because they are easily replaceable. The other day I had to choose between wearing a basic white top from Shein and my favorite Liz Lisa top (which is a cream color). I chose to wear the Shein top on the off chance that my clothes would get dirty in jewelry class. I’m glad I did because later that day my backpack fell off my shoulder and yanked my arm downwards. The hot cocoa that I was holding went down with my arm and the hot cocoa went flying all over my white sweater! 😭. I know if that was my Liz Lisa sweater, which I had only owned for a few months at that point, would have been permanently ruined. I would have been devastated because I had to BEG my parents to get it for my birthday, and that sweater was no longer being sold on the Liz Lisa website. I’d consider myself lucky that the hot cocoa didn’t touch the skirt I was wearing. I thrifted it so I couldn’t just replace it like I could with my sweater. Another reason why it is good to have basics is simply because they are cheap, thus usually giving you a lot of bang for your buck. I find that items that are intricately designed always earn me compliments because they are more eye-catching. A basic base formula for an outfit that is easy to follow and usually successful is a basic + something unique.

My first recommendation is solid color sweaters. You can get them cheap on Shein and I have never had a quality issue with them. A sweater is easy to put on and comfortable, so they allow me to be lazy and still be stylish.

My second recommendation is plaid skirts. In a world where everyone is wearing a hoodie and leggings, plaid skirts make me stand out, especially in winter. It is also nice to wear a plaid skirt that has two colors on it. This helps me to mix and match colors!

Fleece leggings or a pair of fleece lined tights can help you turn a summer outfit into a winter outfit. I got my fleece lined tights on Amazon.

Basic white or black faux leather heels! If the outfit has a light color scheme, you can pair white boots with it. If the outfit has a darker color scheme, you can pair black boots with it.

When I need an extra accessory, I put a beret on my outfit.

You can also find bows for cheap in the bins at CVS

When it’s cold outside I like to throw a teddy bear coat over my outfit.

Dollar tree sunglasses are your best friend. Five Below works too!

Finally I would recommend a white pleated skirt! You can pair it with a lot of different garments. I would recommend steering clear of super cheap ones, on the chance that they will be see through. Always check reviews!
