Last night my BFF and I attended a sustainable fashion show at The Foundry.. "Petrichor" featured an art market, fashion show, and drag performance, all with a focus on sustainability. "Petrichor" refers to the pleasant smell associated with rainfall, especially after a dry period. The event aimed to represent the before and after of rainfall by visually carrying the attendees through the "rainfall", and thus sew the seeds of community centered sustainable liberation.
The event kicked off at 5:30 with a sustainable art market that showcased sustainable art and fashion designs hand crafted by members of the community. Secondhand clothing vendors added to the thrifty spirit of the market. I was blown away by the craft and creativity put into the art on display.
I'm extremely impressed by the fact that this was the first garment someone had ever sewn! The first garment I ever sewn was a pair of pajama pants. Maren definitely hit the nail on the head with this piece. Before my friend even read the description she pointed out that the design reminded her of a moth.
Of the items at the market, my BFF and I liked these the most. It's a shame that the bust of the dress was sheer. Why must all cute slip dresses and nightgowns be lingerie?

The event was abundant in sustainability resources and well dressed patrons. Many attendees showcased impressive outfits, with a majority featuring thrifted and upcycled pieces, perfectly aligning with the event's theme. Speaking of outfits, here's what my BFF and I wore! I wore a Michell Macaron look to stay warm and my BFF almost froze to death in her nature-inspired outfit. My BFF and I participated in creating this interactive skirt by adding recycled INVERSA leather to the handmade skirt. An interactive garment is a creative idea and fits perfectly with the theme of the event.
Once we were done browsing the market we got seats and flipped through a pamphlet while waiting for the fashion show to begin.
Here's a fashion show photo dump!
The incredible range of creativity displayed at the event was truly inspiring, especially as an aspiring fashion designer. I hope to push my own creative boundaries in the same way these designers have and one day see my own designs showcased on a runway. While the photos may not capture it fully, seeing the garments up close revealed the immense time, skill, and dedication invested in every stitch. I honestly couldn't pick a favorite because every garment is so unique.
Following the fashion show, there was a brief intermission before the next segment of the event: a drag performance. I never imagined I would be the type of person to enjoy a drag show, but after attending a Halloween drag show organized by students at my school, I was eager to experience more. This was my BFF's first time attending a drag performance. Here are some snapshots!
I love the nature of drag shows. The cheers of the crowd every time a performer does something outrageous always gives me a thrill.
There was an after dance party that I didn't have time to stay for. I would have loved to interview people about the event. Maybe next time!
